Makwande! Increasing Africa’s Presence on Wikipedia
November 13, 2018 @ 1:00 pm - 4:00 pm
Did you know there are active Wikipedias in 292 languages, including more than 30 African languages? Yet all of these languages together still have less than half the number of articles in the English-language Wikipedia.
Edit Wikipedia in African Languages including (Amharic, Tigrinya Oromo etc..) or add to Wikipedia’s content about Africa in English, French & other widely spoken languages.
If you know one of these languages, and if you can spare minutes between 1 and 4pm on Tuesday November 13th, please join us in person or virtually for a Wikipedia editathon and translatathon to help close these gaps.
Register for a Wikipedia account before the event, if you do not have one and join us to learn how you can contribute! Beginners welcome!
Don’t know these languages?
You can still help! As you can see, there is a need for better coverage of Africa in all Wikipedias. Expand articles, add citations or edit links, or participate in the ongoing Afrocine project. Don’t like to write? Contribute photographs to Wikipedia. For more information see Wiki Loves Monuments.
Starts: 1:00pm on Tuesday, November 13th 2018
End Date: Tuesday, November 13th 2018
End Time: 4:00pm
